Resilient Revival Inc 501(c)3 was founded out of empathy, awareness and compassion for those in the hospital and post intensive care unit (ICUs) rehabilitation setting.
Our founder was diagnosed with ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome), on full mechanical ventilation and placed in a medical coma. He had undergone, intubation, a tracheostomy, and a chest tube. After spending months in the ICU fighting for his life with the prognosis to live slim, Billy kept fighting and survived. There is a lack of resources entry and conclusion of post ICU rehabilitation. A large focus is made on the physical rehabilitation of the body leaving little resources towards the psychological recovery and often we rely on the physical and occupational therapists for their motivated words and coaching to guide us through.
5 Million
More than 5 million patients are admitted annually to hospital intensive care units (ICUs) in the United States alone, most of these patients will be monitored in a step-down unit or enter hospital in-patient or out-patient rehabilitation.
According to the Center for Medicare Advocacy, the average length of stay for inpatient rehabilitation is 12.4 days.
Patients with PICS (Post ICU Syndrome) may have new or worsening brain (cognitive), emotional, and/or physical symptoms. The symptoms start after the critical illness, persist after discharge from the ICU and can last for weeks, months, and even years.
1 in 3 people discharged from ICUs have clinically persistent symptoms of depression and can last for over a year. Depressive symptoms in this population is 3-4x that of the general population.
